Faculty of Arts, Charles University | University of Economics, Prague | Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic | May 5, 2010

In 2010, a series of lectures entitled “Thomas Jefferson’s Vision—Three Fundamental and Inalienable Human Rights” was held at Charles University, the University of Economics, and the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic on the occasion of the opening of a conference marking the 60th anniversary of the Council of Europe’s European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. The lecture on Thomas Jefferson was delivered by American lawyerEric S. Petersen, who has devoted decades to studying the life and work of the third U.S. president. In 2005, he published a book on this topic titled “Light and Liberty”, which he tastefully compiled from Thomas Jefferson’s personal correspondence, summarizing not only his political thinking but also his deeply inspiring life wisdom.
